This is my Dad.   He joined us for the fishing tournament and then had a cigar on the Pontoon Ride home.

People ask, what do you look like.  Well, I am Peter, this is Karen.  Yes, I married “up”, “way up”!

Happier Days – This is me – Peter – in 2008

I’ve been in a cast for over 5 weeks … with a ruptured achilles tendon.  It has been a real challenge to stay “sane” while sitting with my foot up in the air.

Here is a picture of me in happier times, in my Geisler, fishing … great thoughts … I can’t do any type of sports for at least a year, so fishing is my friend for 2009.  I just love these wood boats … too much maintenance, but beautiful for fishing …

My Leg – Tennis is Dangerous

Ruptured Achilles Tendon - From South Pole to Tennis?

So, in December 2008, I joined a group of great guys and cross country skied to the South Pole http://www.southpoleforkids.ca Everyone told us it was dangerous, and it sure was cold – hit -50 degree conditions, Antarctic Storms … ended up being away from home for a month.

Decided to take the family to Mexico, to make up for my time away.   Playing tennis, yes, just casual tennis, I heard an incredible “bang” and my Achilles tendon ruptured – 100% torn.  Off to the Mexican hospital, which was great, in a cast with Tylenol and shipped back to Canada.   Waited two days and then had surgery to re-attach.

This is a picture of me, still in the hospital.  For some reason, Narcotics are not as much fun as a grown up … truthfully, hated them … but they were necessary.

A month later and I still cannot put my foot down for more than a few minutes.  I’m very thankful for all the encouragement and support I have received from my family and friends.

So much for my goal of catching a big female Pike, sitting in the weeds, on the 1st of May.   Oh well …

As they say “such is life …”.
